The 4 Motivation Killers
“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals. Adjust the action steps.” - Confucius
1. Lack of Clarity
There’s a big difference between knowing what you want and kinda knowing what you want. It’s easy to fall into the trap of setting goals that don’t have clarity. It all starts with the vision that you have for your entire life and using that compelling vision to give your goals clarity.
Solution: Go for a run or a walk through nature and imagine what your ideal life is. What would be your ideal life in every way if there were no limits? Then, jot it down on paper. Doing this will give you the clarity that you need to plot your path to success.
2. No Accountability
If only 9% of people achieve their goals, what is an almost-guaranteed way to make yourself one of them? Accountability. The more accountable, the more likely that you are to achieve whatever it is that you want.
If the only person on Earth that knows about your goal is yourself and perhaps a few friends (that also aren’t achieving their goals), that’s not a lot of pressure to .
Imagine that when you set a New Year’s Resolution that you were broadcast on T.V. across the world. Furthermore, whether you failed or succeeded in achieving your goal - the whole world would know of the outcome. Yikes! Your drive to achieve your goals would go from small to ginormous.
Solution: The more accountability, the better! Posting your goals on social media is the easiest, quickest way to get accountability. But, if you want to take it to the next level, consider hiring a personal coach to give you that extra push. Dr. Hilary would love to be your teammate on this endevor!
3. No ‘Why’
The Importance of having a strong enough ‘Why’ is preached amongst the four corners of the global self-development arena. However, it’s worth saying again because it truly lays the foundation for any goal. It’s what can guarantee either failure or success with any goal.
Ever wanted something so badly that you would get up early and stay up late to achieve it? Maybe it was a paper that was due in college that was worth a big chunk of your final grade. Maybe it was getting your driver’s license to be the next cool kid in high school.
The stronger that you ramp up that ‘Why’, the more fuel you have for achieving any goal.
Solution: Come up with a list of 100 reasons to achieve your goal. That’s right, 100! Doing this will force you to come up with more reasons than you ever thought possible.
4. Abusing Your Mind & Body
Human beings are not machines, yet, 55% of people report being stressed every day. Giving the body rest and rejuvenation should not be an occasional treat. It should be a daily practice. Daily rejuvenation does not necessarily mean working less. It takes productivity to a whole new level with much less effort.
Solution: Consider getting started with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The ancient Chinese mastered the art of stress reduction and restoring balance to the mind, body, and spirit. Acupuncture, dry needling (when done at JADA Studios), and massage are relaxing rituals that you can do every week to maintain balance in your body and supercharge your productivity.
A Friendly Note for the Hustlers
If motivation is not your problem and you’re working around the clock to reach your goals, give yourself a pat on the back. However, be mindful of your busy schedule and schedule breaks to maintain motivation throughout the year. If you love what you do, that’s awesome, but even purposeful work benefits from a soothing break.
Unshakeable Drive Is Yours for the Taking
